#InsidePeople with Aneta Milenković

How to spend a hot summer day in a city, you might wonder?

Well, there is one perfect spot in the city center, so cozy and hidden from the crowd – Botanička bašta. This was a great choice for a reboot, a place for making awesome chit-chat while enjoying nature, laughing, and walking.  And what was on our menu that Thursday morning? Okay, in addition to healthy juices and tasty oats – Check below.

When we think about any software product, to make it successful in this competitive world we have to make some improvements from time to time. Therefore part of every improvement is to test things out. That is the point where a QA tester comes to the stage and becomes your rockstar!

Aneta Milenković is a QA rockstar in our blue team and this time she would like to share her experience when it comes to working in BlueGrid, some insights about her role, and those funny hours with her teammates.

Let’s meet Aneta! 🙂

When we talk about automation and manual testing, what do you see as an advantage of manual testing?

Aneta: Manual testing allows us to use common sense and deductive reasoning when detecting software defects. This helps us find errors that automated tests might miss. In my opinion that is the main reason why we will always need a human to review the tests made by automated testing tools.

How important is it to be a team player when we talk about this role? Can you share a little bit about your working day with the team?

Aneta: A happy team is a productive team. I would say that it is essential to be a team player. As a tester involved from concept to final product, we can communicate issues or future issues at a number of stages. So a key theme is communication. The working day with my team is a real blast! We are all so different yet so similar. Each of the team members is committed to the team, reliable and responsible. They always lend a helping hand when needed. Daily meets are there to keep each other informed, we share information so everyone is on the same page.

How would you describe the correlation between the Italian language and testing?

Aneta: Language is always changing, evolving, and adapting to the needs of its users. The same is with testing.

What would be 3 desirable traits people in your role have to have?

Aneta: In my opinion, if you want to be good at testing you have to be an idea generator. Think about how the product can be used in different ways. Software testing is challenging because you need to learn new things constantly. So the second one would be a constant learner. Testing is about keeping up with the latest technology, learning automation tools, learning to create ideas, learning from experience, and ultimately about constantly thriving. And last but not least would be detail-oriented, which means being able to pay close attention and notice minor details and catch mistakes, errors, or changes before they snowball into a bigger problem.

What do you love about your role?

Aneta: Being a QA person is a challenging and surely satisfactory job. The main part of testing is looking at a product from different angles, with different perspectives, and testing it with different expectations. It is not easy to develop the right mindset and test the product with different aspects. That is true, but it is also the most interesting job because it throws challenges at you every day. The other thing is contributing towards the betterment of the product by finding and tracking the bugs and through suggestions of improvement ideas. But the ultimate purpose of software testing is not to find bugs, it’s to make the product qualitative. As a tester, you are contributing to improvements in product quality and that’s what makes you feel really good.

What have you learned from being in this field that people should know?

Aneta: Definitely how to stretch my mind to understand how something should work (and how it should not) that usually goes hand in hand with implementing new ideas. Also, I have learned how to decide the priorities as you have to work and convey them accordingly.

What are the most helpful resources that have helped you along the way?

Aneta: Website Guru99 provides great free online courses. Also attending webinars was really helpful.

Do you have advice for those interested in your field?

Aneta: As a tester, you need to communicate with the other team members. If you are wrong, admit it. If you are right, be diplomatic. Don’t take it personally. After all, it is a profession, and everyone wants a good product. Use mistakes as your learning experience and try not to repeat the same mistakes. Don’t rely on book knowledge. Instead, be practical and learn new technologies.

We know that you also enjoy & dance salsa- so we can count on you when we want to organize a salsa day in the office?

Aneta: I really like the idea of having salsa day in the office so one hundred percent yes! It would be my pleasure to share my passion for dance with others. 🙂
